Alternative Dispute Resolution or ADR is a general term used to describe a range of non-court based ways of resolving disagreements. Click on this link for general information on the different options- “What are the ADR options?” or on this link for practical advice on how to choose the right method for your situation- “How to choose?” or on the highlighted links for more information about each of the ADR options which include mediation, collaborative family law, arbitration and negotiation all of which are alternatives to conventional litigation.

These various methods of resolving matters can be highly effective in Family cases whether the issues relate to children or financial issues arising from separation. Contact any of the members of the Edinburgh or Glasgow Family Teams for more information.

ADR methods can be used by married, unmarried and same-sex couples or in wider family disputes.

  • We are the only firm in Scotland to offer arbitration in family cases

  • We have been involved since the outset in collaborative family law in Scotland. All of our Family Team partners are trained collaborative family lawyers

  • We have been recognised for our work in the field of ADR and were awarded the inaugural “ADR Firm of the year” award in the Firm Law Awards 2004
